Ryan Mason lines up two more new signings to play v Blackburn in less than two weeks

West Brom will kick off their Championship campaign against Blackburn Rovers next week.

The Baggies are hoping to hit the ground running under head coach Ryan Mason, but have struggled in pre-season, recording losses to Blackpool and Lincoln City.

And the Englishman has not been able to welcome many signings to The Hawthorns, with just Aune Heggebo, Nat Phillips, and George Campbell arriving so far.

Mason will hope, however, that the next week brings positive news.

Mason wants two signings before Blackburn clash

West Brom have been linked with several signings in recent weeks, but concrete progress has been hard to come by.

Tottenham starlet Mikey Moore was of interest to Mason, but the 17-year-old now looks set for a loan move to Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

Free agent Jamal Lewis has also been linked with a move to The Hawthorns, but questions have been raised over the defender’s ability to stay fit.

Nevertheless, West Brom are in need of arrivals and according to Baggies insider DOOD (29 July), Mason wants two new signings before the season opener.

The ex journalist also mentioned that three players could leave the West Midlands in the coming weeks, with West Brom reportedly struggling against the restrictions defined by the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

West Brom desperately need depth

The depth of Mason’s squad has been identified as a clear issue, and has only been exemplified in pre-season.

The former Spurs interim boss lacks options throughout the team, but especially in the centre of the midfield, and in the full-back areas.

Just four senior central midfielders will be available for Mason on the opening day, with Darnell Furlong the only option at right-back.

The Championship is known for a lot of things, with one prominent feature being its incredibly gruelling schedule.

West Brom face a busy schedule

With that in mind, depth is incredibly important, and West Brom simply do not have enough of it.

Luckily for the Baggies, they still have some time. Whilst the season opener is next week, the window does not shut until the end of August.

But with five matches lined up next month, there is very little time to spare.
